A wellbeing space created for NHS staff in tribute to Captain Sir Tom Moore has received its latest donation – a specialist massage chair!
Tees Valley Innovation (TVI) CEO donated a HydroMassage chair recently to the Rainbow Room at the University Hospital of North Tees, as recognition for the care staff have provided throughout the pandemic.
The lounger is a dry hot water massage machine to help frontline staff relax and unwind.
Ian Donley, Tees Valley Innovation founder and chief executive, said: “I have personally benefitted from the excellent service provided by the NHS over many years and also wanted to acknowledge the care that has been provided to a number of loved ones lost this past 12 months.
“I felt it important to show that gratitude by providing some love and care to staff at the hospital with this donation.
“The work the NHS staff do, especially over the past year, is immeasurable and selfless. So I wanted to make a contribution to their health and wellbeing, as a gesture of my own appreciation.”
Staff at the University Hospital of North Tees had the opportunity to try out the new massage lounger, while North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust wellbeing guardian and non-executive director Rita Taylor thanked Ian and TVI.
Rita said: “It is so important for our staff to have a quiet space where they can relax and take some time out to recharge. Our Rainbow Rooms have been instrumental to staff wellbeing and the addition of the HydroMassager at the University Hospital of North Tees is so very welcome.
“I’d like to thank Ian and Tees Valley Innovation – I know our staff will make good use of this generous donation and will enjoy using it.”
Frailty coordinator Rebecca Phillips was one of the first staff members to try new HydroMassage and shared her review “I was shocked when I first got on the chair and it was turned on – I wasn’t expecting it to be lovely and warm! It was a really relaxing experience and I’d definitely encourage staff to try it out for themselves.”
The Trusts Rainbow Rooms were opened at both of the Trust’s hospital sites last year from funding raised by Captain Sir Tom for wellbeing initiatives across the NHS.
TVI, is a leading supplier of fitness and wellness products and leisure consultancy. HydroMassage is traditionally installed in gyms and spas but is increasing being installed in companies to help support staffs physical and mental wellbeing.
